Tuesday evening was Enrolment Night, the first evening of the new season. Enrolment is a bit of a misnomer now days as so many members pay by the Treasurer’s preferred method of bank to bank transfer. As a former Treasurer myself I can confirm that this is by far the easiest method of paying subs, so long as you remember to put something in the “reference” field that identifies you.
So, with little money changing hands on the night we were treated to a well thought out evening showing off the variety of styles and abilities of members to existing and new members alike.
We started with a welcoming address from our new chairperson Carole Zimmerman, followed by a short audio-visual showcasing the best of last season’s competition entries. Carole explained about our internal competitions and what a good opportunity they are to learn by listening to the judge’s comments on all the images. Sometimes we use an evening to apply the suggestions of the judge to see if we agree that we end up with a better image.
We also have a varied and interesting programme lined up for this season thanks to Anjalika; smart printed programmes are available at club nights, or a “dates only” version is available on the web site if you just want to check on what’s happening.
Following the formal content of the evening we were free to take refreshments (nice sausage rolls and nibbles) and to look at the various materials on show from prints to location suggestions from Outdoor Photography, and some beautiful photobooks.
It was also a good opportunity to catch up with existing members and get to know potential new members. Warminster has a reputation for being a friendly club and evening like this demonstrate how deserved that is.
Next week we have external speaker Peter Crane showing his images of Street Photography. Whether you’re into this genre or not it’s always interesting to view the images of others, and who knows what inspiration we may gain from it?
